Another snowy one

GW/MW-005 Llan Ddu Fawr

Using my GPS and a track saved from last year I made my way to the summit from the cattle grid at SN785683 above Llyn Teifi one of the many mountain lakes situated around this area. 

Once again it was tough going with deep snow in places, thankfully the boggy bits were frozen....

On arrival at the cairn which also surrounds the trig point I found that it was partially filled with snow so a little bit of digging was required to create a snug office to protect me from the biting wind.

This time I was able to erect the pole to its full height and set up the Band Hopper 3 including the 2m dipole to make sure I had that s2s with Mal and Phil on Sugar Loaf GW/SW-011. I opened my activation with a visit to 60m with 6 chasers responding including an s2s with Barry.

As Jonathan 2W0KGQ/p had spotted to say he would be QRV in 5 minutes on 7.114Mhz I called in hoping that he would be there but as he had not yet arrived although I gave some of the hovering chasers my summit :)

I had intended to stay on 40m but the FT270 suddenly burst into life and very quickly a surprise s2s with Helen and Carolyn  (GW/NW051) was in the log followed shortly by David G0EVV/p on G/NP-009 - thanks everybody.

As the chasers knew I was about I thought I’d better get going on 40m and a quick listen on 7.118 Mhz immediately produced the s2s with Jonathan that I had been looking for –thanks :) I found a clear frequency and very soon I was into an orderly pile-up including another s2s with Phil and Mal not on 2m as expected but on 40m – thanks both.

I’d posted on the WAB Yahoo Group website that I would call in and give them the Trig TP6564 (Trawsallt) and the WAB square which we now know should have been SN76 and not 77 as I had stated. Both squares are very close to each other and the trig is just within 76.

 The sun was breaking through the low cloud and eventually I managed a few nice pictures with the camera on the way down. 

On the way home I stopped in the small hamlet of Ffair Rhos which is where you turn for the Teifi Pools and took a picture of the information board which is outside the pub (no longer open) – interesting reading.
