No Gold nuggets!
GW/NW-037 Y Garn

With so many SOTA summits up in North Wales Val and I often
travel along the A470 through the village of Ganllwyd. Now I thought that this would be a good
starting point for our activation of Y Garn as it has a car park and toilet
facilities by the main road which is run by the National Trust.
Car Park - Ganllwyd
I had picked up a leaflet entitled ‘Discover
Dolmelynllyn’ issued by the NT containing various colour coded routes up to the
remains of the Gold mines. Now one of these routes would link in nicely with
another route given to me by Barry M0IML so I stitched the two together to give
a very pleasant 3.97 km route to the summit.

Turn left from Car Park, cross the main road and head for this sign and gate (100m down the road)
Turn left here on to track and follow to the highest Gold Mine
Follow track past the Gold mine (keeping left) and then towards the ridge
On the ridge head (NW) for the hole in the wall then follow the wall immediately in front of you
Follow the wall
Follow the wall until you reach a ladder stile..cross over the ladder stile and turn right to follow the wall again to the highest point then turn left for summit (see my GPS track)
It was a nice day but with a slight breeze blowing on the
summit the views were spectacular with many SOTA summits that I need to
activate and many that we have activated over the last month or so. Having
seen the Rhinogs from afar it was great to see them close by making me more
determined to activate them soon.

With David M0YDH/p in the log with an s2s on 2m I was soon
calling on 60m and a further two s2s followed quickly with Barry and Jack
making the log (see previous blog).

Out of the wind..Trawsfyndd in the distance
Now 40m went ballistic considering band conditions had been
so poor over the last few weeks. I did
have the linear running so inevitably the chasers could hear me well enough
with only a handful of poor signal reports for me.

of s2s with Ryan and Alastair with a call from my friend Dave from Carmarthen
and Chris GW7HAE who was running a special event station (see previous blog

face so with a surprise 2m s2s with John and a SOTA presentation for Chris and
guests (see previous blog) I pulled the plug on another successful activation.
